Save Energy and Money with a Smart Watts Rebate

If you’ve been thinking about making improvements to reduce your energy use and lower your costs, now may be the time. Fort Lauderdale business owners may qualify for up to $1,000 in cash rebates for the purchase and installation of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems (HVAC), solar or gas on-demand water heaters, solar panels, ENERGY STAR® windows or doors, and insulation.

Qualifying Improvements

Business owners can choose from the following permanently installed, pre-approved home improvement items that are on this list. Products must meet ENERGY STAR® qualifications (summarized below) and Florida Building Code. Eligibility Requirements

To participate in the rebate program, applicants must own and occupy the home that is being improved. The business must be located in the City of Fort Lauderdale. Eligibility details and additional requirements are detailed in the Rebate Program Guidelines and Application Package .

How It Works

Approved applicants have four months to complete the work and submit a rebate request form for their check, along with the home improvement proof of purchase and permit documentation. As the rebate income is taxable, the City will also require a completed W-9 form. If an applicant does not submit the rebate request form and the supporting documentation within four months of approval, the unused funding will be reallocated to applicants who were placed on a waiting list. The program provides a 50 percent match of up to $1,000. There is a limit of one rebate per business.

The City of Fort Lauderdale Smart Watts Rebate Program is funded through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG). The EECBG is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and offered through the U.S. Department of Energy. The program will be in effect until funds are depleted, and rebates are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. So, you must act quickly.
